During a meeting with visiting Malaysian Foreign Minister Zambry Abdul Kadir, Nikbakht stated that Iran has made significant progress in the production of basic goods and important food products.
Nikbakht added that Iran is striving to increase its achievements by exchanging experiences and technical knowledge with friendly countries, utilizing the expertise of scientists and agricultural elites from other countries, including Malaysia.
Nikbakht also mentioned that three southern Iranian provinces – Hormozgan, Sistan and Baluchestan, and Kerman – have the potential to produce tropical products such as bananas, mangoes, and other tropical fruits. He stated that based on previous understandings with Malaysia, a joint research station for the production of tropical fruits could be established in Iran.
Abdul Kadir expressed his willingness to utilize Iran’s experiences in the field of food security.
He referred to Malaysia’s $5 billion import of food products and stated that Iran could play a vital role in meeting Malaysia’s needs.
Abdul Kadir added that extensive cooperation in the field of poultry and tropical fruits could transform Iran and Malaysia into major countries in halal food production.
